That's right, there's an initial black screen which lasts a couple of seconds, then a cursor for 5 seconds, then "RISC OS 8M" etc.
I left it switched off for a few hours then went back to it. It has now reverted to being slow to boot up, and the IDE disc isn't being detected correctly - I get an error, and then the desktop comes up with 4: instead of the disc name. It wasn't doing that before. It's possible that this is related to the random couple of rechargeable batteries I put in it - which aren't holding enough charge yet. However, I'm not sure what CMOS setting would cause that to happen though? I'll have a play with holding down Del again. Kind of odd that this only worked in RO3.70 and not for any other version.
Or... could it be an IDE interface fault which is intermittent? Seemed to be working 100% fine earlier.
