32-bit acorn software: other • Reinstalling RiscOS 3.5 on a RPC600

Hey all,

I recently got hold of a RiscPC 600 and after a vinegar bath and wash in the dishwasher much to my surprise it worked!

Yay, right? Well, this is where I've got stuck.

The machine currently has no battery and what I think is a either bad HDD or one that has been formatted at some stage.

It boots to a very basic desktop (I'm assuming from the 3.5 roms) but I cannot access the HDD getting the error message:

Error when reading ADFS::4.$ - Disc not understood - has it been formatted?

What I'm trying to work out is how I can copy the base operating system onto the Conner drive, or even better replace it a compact flash card. I have a couple of 1GB compact flash drives that would probably work.

I've got a bunch of IDE drives, compact flash, gotek (if floppy image booting is required). For the life of me, I can't find a guide that says, hey you have a completely blank but working RiscPC do this?

In the Amiga world if had a completely blank machine I boot from the Install floppy, init the HDD, then run the installer, shuffle thru 6 floppies, reboot and it will boot to the the OS from the HDD.

Surely I'm just struggling with the new (well old) platform and fumbling in the dark :)

Help!
