Sounds like it could be a drive issue, rather than a beeb one. Perhaps start a new thread so the original problem isn't neglected?
Returning to the original problem, it sounds increasingly as though your motherboard OS socket could do with being replaced, and the bodges to get the the Watford board working could do with being removed.
There's definitely something iffy with the Watford board, if it can't find any roms. This may be because one of the original fixes has now failed, or something new has now broken in the rom selection circuitry.
Maybe you need to finally replace the pin headers so you can be confident it should work. In which case if it doesn't then there's another fault on the board in the rom selection circuitry?
Or alternatively go for one of the modern replacements which will give you so much more...
