acorn atom and acorn system series • Re: Combined VGA / Tube interface board for Atom

If you previously bought an AtomVGA board from me and would now like to add this new SID functionality, you should be able to do this, but please be aware you will need to replace the onboard Pico module with the newer Pico2 module first.

In most cases, I have soldered the Pico module directly onto the AtomVGA board, and removing it may be quite a challenge.

If you don't want to desolder the old Pico, one alternative (that I've not tried yet) is to leave the old Pico in place, and reprogram it so that all GPIO pins are configured as inputs. Then solder 2 x 20 pin SIL sockets on top of the existing Pico (the sockets will need to go through two sets of through holes - the original Pico and the AtomVGA board), and then plug the new Pico2 into those new SIL sockets. You would need to leave pin 36 (+3V3) of the new Pico unconnected, as the original Pico will still be supplying +3V3 to the rest of the AtomVGA board.

If you want to send your AtomVGA board back to me, I'll be happy to do this mod for you, for the price of the new Pico2 + headers and return postage. I'll provide a new VGA connector board with the additional audio connector at the same time.

If you're happy to modify your own AtomVGA board, but would still like a new VGA connector board from me, again, I can supply you with one of those for the price of postage.
