This appears to be a rather common fault with the Cub monitors, and thankfully quite a simple fix. Checked C224, and it had failed short circuit. It also took out fusible resistor R235. Ordered up some replacements earlier in the week, and fitted today. Success - [Edit]: It's now been running about an hour without any issues.
This time running the adventure in 40 column mode (although it works equally well in 80 column mode):
It's a nice clean monitor with no markings on it.
