8-bit acorn hardware • Acorn Electron Plus 1 ROMs

Hello all.

As per my post in the “Today I received…” thread, I’ve just become the owner of an Acorn Electron and Plus 1. Everything seems to be working, including the games loaded from the ElkSD Plus 1 cartridge, but when I run *HELP, I don’t get anything announcing the presence of the Plus 1. I thought it was supposed to say “Expansion 1.00 ADC/Printer/RS423”? All I get is “OS 1.00” output (and additional commands if the ElkSD cartridge is inserted).

I don’t have a *ROMS command, so can’t see what the Electron thinks is there.

Attached is a photo of the Plus 1 board. Can anyone tell me what I’ve got and why I don’t have get the “Expansion 1.00” text?

I used to have the PRES Advanced Plus 2 in my childhood Electron which had a lot of extra commands. What is the best way to upgrade the Plus 1 so I get *ROMS and other useful commands? Is it the new “Plus 1/RomBox-2 Support ROM” from Retro Hardware (Dave Hitchins)? If so, is it a simple matter of popping out the existing ROM and inserting a replacement?
