Having taken on board your helpful comment below, and some more research (googling) on my part, and ive made a different cable - but still no joy.
Ive given myself a headache now with all this reading, making, testing, re-reading, re-making, re-testing, so im going to bed! Ill do more research around basic electronics / signal flow / cable making tomorrow and, no doubt, v3![:lol:]( "Laughing")

Im also going to call on family / friends to find someone with a screen with either a direct RGB in, or composite in instead of trying to make an adapter. Im sure im just making it unnecessarily hard for myself.
Oscilloscope seller has run out of stock, so that's now on hold also![#-o]( "d'oh!")
