It does seem to be different with actual SCSI drives which give the disc error &70 if the drive isn't found. This seems to be a generic error though, as unformatted drives also give this error, and formatted ones which have been stopped and not started again, so it's not even as if ADFS could be patched to treat an error 70 as a drive not ready error as there could be multiple causes.
I just tried your host adapter which is connected to my SCSI2SD and even with the SD card ejected, drives still give a disc error 70.
