32-bit acorn hardware • Double keyboard trouble

TL;DR: I have two A3000s which I repaired after battery rot. The mouse on the first recently failed completely, after which IC38 died - but what happened after is a bit odd:

- IC 38 has been replaced and the machine boots again (I tracked the original failure with a postbox, and could see the RAM was mis-detected)
- The mouse has started working again without any intervention on my part
- However, the next problem is that the left hand keys (1, Q, A, Z) and some of the bottom row of keys (all the way across to 1, 2, 3) are working intermittently.
- To determine if this was a membrane or a PCB problem, I've swapped the keyboards around between machines - and *both* keyboards and machines appear to be now suffering the same issue (same row and column!) :s

It's possible I missed this fault at the time, but the 'Z' key consistently fails now - and I was definitely able to configure ZIDEFS before (I have a DOM module installed). On any other machine, I'd order new membranes, but they seem to be lacking for the A3000.

I suspect this could be wear at the end of the connector, given that keys are prone to work sometimes - and I have buzzed out the PCB from the guide at viewtopic.php?p=64302#p64302 without a problem.

I guess I should next buzz out the keyboards (presuming that 5V is shorted to the relevant pin when pressed?). However, I was also tempted to trim down the connector - but, given I'm OK with desoldering, is it actually better to fit clinchers? Thanks!
