8-bit acorn software: other • Re: Getting Up And Running After Master CMOS Reset

If the batteries have gone flat then it's probably best to do an R-power on reset to clear out any gremlins. This should also re-insert all the ROMs.

I changed the batteries in one of my Masters earlier in the month as it was losing time. I did this with the power off, but changed each battery quickly one by one so it wouldn't lose all the settings. This was to avoid having to do an R-reset but in fact there have been a couple of problems. One is that no Caps Lock setting showed up in *STATUS at all. It seemed to be in SHIFT-CAPS mode until I configured it for CAPS which restored the status message. The other thing is that the ANFS library utility version number display setting had been lost. I was sure that was set with a *OPT command but nothing I tried turned the messages back on so I had to edit the CMOS RAM directly to get them back.

Although the *ROMS listing shows the numbers in hex, *INSERT needs the parameter in decimal! So *INSERT 12 will reinsert BASIC.

I think the DFS in ROM &B is probably something to do with the MMC, as it has the same version number as the SPI thing in ROM 8.
