32-bit acorn hardware • Re: Another A3010 repair

I knew that! 12V just goes to the audio and RS232... in terms of needing the shield I mean to support the keyboard and mount the board and floppy in the plastics correctly. I could print off some plastic supports but it would be a real bodge given my success rate in designing other stuff in freecad

Double checked the schematics and made sure that I've not connected anything to the earthing trace around the edge of the board - all good. However now you've mentioned it I can see the port shells *are* wired to ground and they touch the shell... oh b****r. Now I have a clue as to why there is an earthing point on the board and the shield but only one is connected. Going to guess that it was included to help run the board out of the case. Not sure I get why the port shells are earthed instead of grounded given the "ground" could be shared with other powered devices and they most definitely wouldn't be earthed (unless it was another Arch)

Oh well - another thing to fix on the PCB. Don't think I can fix it on the current PCB without reaming out the mounting holes to remove any copper connection and then *not* soldering in the mounting points. Going to have a probe around the scrap board you gave me to see if I can figure this all out
