8-bit acorn hardware • Dual ROM carrier boards

Hi,
I have a number of carrier boards with interword, SPELL and other ROMS which I'm unlikely to use in my Beebs.
I'm just wondering if the PAL on these boards allow swapping out of other dual ROMs from the same manufacturer, or is the PAL address switching specific to the ROMS rather than the manufacturer?
