8-bit acorn hardware • One long beep woes! [bbc micro B]

Please go easy on me I'm a complete newbie! I own a few retro computers and the beeb was my latest acquisition but I've managed to screw something up in less than 24hrs. (Probably a record).

First off, everything worked fine before I opened the lid with the exception of DFS not registering. [Which i could live with]. I got the correct beeps and display on the TV..

The keyboard was a mess so I removed the keyboard to clean the keys. Unattached the ribbon cable and speaker wire. I removed the keys, cleaned them, put keys back and attached the cable and speaker wire.

I now get the infamous long beep with CAPS LOCK lit. If I remove the keyboard I get a short beep with a flashing cursor.

The only other thing I did was reseat the DFS chip because DFS was not showing upon boot and noticed when I removed the chip, one of the top legs was completely bent. I reseated the chip at the same time but before I obviously reattached the keyboard.

As I say. Continous beep and caps lock lit with keyboard attached. Remove the keyboard again, retry I now get one beep and flashing cursor (minis sign).

I really appreciate any help.
