Hey!

I have a Watford Electronics 30mb Winchester drive which I think I purchased way back in 1989. In around 1991 it developed a fault where it wouldn't start up properly, unfortunately the cost of repair/replacement was too much so I gave up and it got stored in the back of a cupboard where it has stayed for the last 34 years. I recently I stumbled across it and as it's a kind of time capsule from the past, I would love to get it working again and see what's on it.

Inside there is a Seagate ST-238R drive. Powering the drive with a PC PSU which I know works, after about a second the drive starts to spin up slowly, then after about 2-3 seconds it stops speeding up and eventually stops which may be the issue I had in 1991. I had a look inside and the heads move freely so aren't stuck to the disks, the disks seem to spin without much resistance. I was just wondering if anyone has had this issue before and know what the problem might be? Could it be this capacitor issue in relation to other Seagate models:-

Thanks!
