Just to be clear, it's not just PiEconetBridge clock that deviates away from the BeebMaster/SJ style clock and associated phantom termination. There are a number of more modern clocks (eg the Simon Inns - WFF clock) that are powered from 5V and therefore don't have the correct circuitry to create the offset voltage required to power the SJ style termination. But you're absolutely right, this is a source of confusion, and I did try to clarify this at the workshop. The multiple types of Econets and terminations causes some confusion too - I wish it was possible to settle on one or t'other and again IMVHO things like Ken's PiClockHubThing just adds to the confusion when I thought it'd been settled on the BeebMaster/SJ style as preferred.
Regarding the hub / star configuration, I (perhaps wrongly) visualise the hub as being multiple standard drop boxes connected together with very short cables (pcb tracks). I don't think there's any restriction on how short the cables need to be, so the fact that these 'drop boxes' are only a few cm apart and connected via pcb tracks, instead of a few m apart and connected by serial comms cable shouldn't really make any difference. Unless someone wants to correct me?
