No idea why the capacitors weren't installed, I doubt if it makes any difference, maybe in borderline cases?
A simpler way to find what EPROM you've got for the OS is to turn it on and then press "4" and the cursor down bottom at the same time to get into the special menu. I think 3.19 is the last version.
I have plenty of 32 pin sockets and I didn't fancy bending pins (just in case) II read out the contents then removed the Korg labels, cleaned the top of the IC with IPA and erased them and then burnt in WS3.19.
I'm pondering the LCD replacement on my A/D as it's getting dim, I'll go for grey/white, although it's quite straightforward to replace the SMD LEDs with any colour, just requires a bit of soldering and a steady hand.
