I managed to get hold of an AtomDVI PCB from @cjm when I went along to ABUG last weekend. Thank you :).

The first thing I checked was the orientation of PL7, having fallen foul of this previously. I notice that it's 180 degrees out, compared to the orientation of the socket on my motherboard. There was a bit of discussion about this here, where I thought I had installed the socket on my Atom 180 degrees out, but I was then convinced by others that it is actually the correct orientation. Who knows! Anyway, I've installed the header on the AtomDVI PCB to match the orientation of the socket on the Atom PCB (hopefully).
Well done for spotting that. If the connector is fitted to the opposite side to the components then the pins will be oriented correctly for mounting the board internally. The type of connector will vary from ATOM to ATOM, for example: my ATOM has male pin headers on the motherboard.
So, I think I now need a special build of the Pico firmware that uses the video RAM on my Colour / Noise Killer board instead of the Pico RAM?
You do - I'll post one later today.

I've also got a couple of follow up questions for @cjm:
  • You mentioned that you now have a workaround for the missing 'ACORN ATOM' message, and no longer need to hold the Atom in Reset during startup. I assume you still need the RST signal as an input to the Pico?
Yes - the pico resets the video mode and SID on RST.

[*]Given the workaround, I also assume we no longer need the replacement IC9, and we can just retain the original 74LS04?
Correct - the pico is only using RST as input now.
[*]On my board, I have ran a trace between the DVI header pin 16 and the Pico pin 2 to accommodate a future screen capture function. Intention would be to have a pushbutton on the external DVI board that connects DVI header pin 16 to GND when pressed. On your board, pin 16 is currently tied to GND. Are you happy enough for me to re-assign this pin on the DVI header?[/list]
Yes.

Chris
