I'll echo Ian's suggestions and add - Have you tried holding the Delete key while powering on? Sometimes if there's garbage in CMOS, the machine will misbehave.Hi Folks, Ive been wrestling with an A3020 with significant battery damage. Followed by a some screen garbage.
I think, at this stage, Im getting through POST but its failing before it loads the OS.
The other possibility is you have a relatively minor fault which is allowing the machine to get past SELFTEST, but clobbering the RISC OS boot. RAM's a distinct possibility - but If the board layout is like the A4000 - then the I/O chip is near the battery and I'd give the CPU/Bus side of that a close look.
