The DFS and 8271 know that it’s been asked to write a single 512 byte sector - that what the &41 OSWORD parameter byte does - the top three bits indicate the sector size, the rest indicate the number of sectors.
I’m not sure who (the DfS rom or the 8271) is actually computing the crc16, but the dfs & 8271 does handle 512 byte sectors.
My vector2 BBC disc coping software (by Chalice software) also displays that it handles 512 byte sectors.
