I don't think the majority of people want physical media. Yes, there is some nostalgia in picking up a tangible object
As said in that article, it's not just nostalgia, some very expensive older bits of equipment still need them.
Yeah, the odd synth guy who hasn't awoken to the joys of Gotek and a hugely underfunded public transport system and a massively overfunded strategic defence system are edge cases. The majority of people don't care about the source of the music/movie/book, just convenience. The explosion in streaming services for both music and film, where 1 in 4 people in the UK have a Netflix subscription, a rise of 600% in 10 years. The majority is voting with their fingers to put an end to media for good - discs, tapes, books, maps - all in the cloud now. There are a few hold-outs I'm one - I can still hear the difference between streamed music and CD - whilst I can, I'll keep buying CDs... :lol: and I can see the checkerboard effect that Amazon Prime and Apple TV uses to mask the lack of bit-rate in fast moving images - so I keep buying UHD/BD discs (and ripping them - MacBook makes short work of that chore)
