OK. So update:
First, the Gotek does work with Opus DDOS with single-sided (ssd) images. SHIFT-BREAK worked once I changed the jumper to Drive-0. This has allowed me to "manage" my games library, testing one at a time to see which ones work and which don't.
However, there have been some complications. I've been running into issues loading anything by Atarisoft (I suppose I could have just said Atari there). Specifically BattleZone (I believe this is a new clone version) and Asteroids Deluxe.
Asteroids gets to its load screen, beeps and then the screen goes blank. Believe it or not, that's an improvement, as before I had the Gotek attached (trying to load through MMFS from an SD card) it would just crash as soon as it got to the load screen. I know there are a number of clone alternatives, but it would be nice to get the Atari original if I can.
BattleZone is another issue, that might have exposed a fault i didn't know I had. At first, I would tell me to turn off Disk Doctor. After multiple attempts to do so, I just removed it and it started to load. But then it wouldn't detect the sideways RAM banks. Once again, I get to the Atari logo load screen and all I get is: "Sideways RAM bank not found."
There are two 64k SRAM chips installed in my SideWise Board (1038 issue 4), in the bottom right sockets. When looking at the two or three pictures of this board I was able to find on the internet, the SRAMs appear to be in the proper places. However, I've also noticed that my board is considerably more populated than the other examples I've seen:
https://www.retro-kit.co.uk/page.cfm/co ... ROM-board/
https://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det ... RAM-Board/ (
Sorry for the weblink, I didn't want to get in any copyright trouble. Also, sorry for not removing my board for the picture, it's a pain to get back in. (Here's what's under the keyboard ribbon which is unpopulated in the other examples of this board that I've seen)
The only thing I've done to this is move the Opus DDOS ROM to the motherboard and remove the battery since it was leaking.
There are two switches connected to S4 and S6, S1 and S2 have jumper pins added and the blocks are in the south position, and C14 is populated with an electrolytic capacitor, the exact value of which I can't tell since I can't lift it high enough to see.
Does anyone know where I can find the documentation for this board? I have a feeling that the sideways RAM is going to be an issue going forward.
