I've actually been on *. for many years, but never introduced myself or said hello properly.

HELLO!

My first introduction to computers was a Commodore PET 2001 - the one with a chiclet ( calculator style ) keyboard - back in 1979. I then bought my own Nascom 2 computer. This allowed me to learn BASIC, 6502 and Z80 at the same time. In 1982 I bought a BBC Micro model A which was soon upgraded to a Model B so I could play the early Acornsoft games, mostly Planetoid!

I then spent my time understanding everything I could about the Beeb and went on to develop a few games for the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron:- Atomic Protector, Galaforce, Crazee Rider and Galaforce 2.

I also worked at 'The Micro User' magazine for about 2 years, 1984 to 1986ish. I wrote many technical articles for the magazine during this time including a mini-series about 'how to write machine code games'.

Post 1988 I went on develop games for the NES, SNES, PC, Playstation 3/4/5, XBOX/ONE, 3DS Vita and mobile platforms. If you've even owned or played a LEGO videogame then there's a good chance I worked on it, as part of a massive team!

I did this until 2020 when i decided to retire from game development to do my own fun things.

Oh, another thing I did was write tape protection systems for lots of Beeb/Electron games. I did this for my school friends ( Paul Proctor and Chris Roberts ) who also wrote a few Beeb games. It was a bit of fun I did on the side whilst writing games.

This early thread about the 'Nightshade' protection is a personal favourite. One of the reasons I joined *.
