Clamped by ? Is this a software configuration ?
Software? No. Electronically clamped. Something outside VIDC pulling the signal. For example if the OpAmp had died and was pulling its input low.
No I don't see any change in Ws, either in 16bit or 8bit modes, it's a 20KHz 5v square wave all the time (doesn't seem to change when I try the button to make the beep). On power on it's 5v, then when the Desktop has initialised, it's 20KHz.
Do you really mean Desktop, or just when "RISC OS" has appeared?... when the sound system has been initialised and audio DMA's happening. Because that's what I'd expect. I don't have a RiscPC in a position where I can verify this myself just now though.
