I guess it is maybe "a memory thing"
From a quick look at the bootstrap it doesn't appear to do anything unusual, like claim spare screen memory. It does need a 370KB RMA block though - so you could rule that out fairly easily.
It also checks if the Sprite Area DA is >20MB - which I'm sure is a typo and should probably be checking for 80K.

There are some odd things in the code though, such as issuing *Host and *Tube and calls to two undocumented SWI, &EE and &F2. It also claims UKSWIV which provides SWI's in the range &10001 thru &100BA - which I'm guessing are called from the RISC iX side?
